Walk humbly with your God. Walking with God illustrations the ideal relationship we can share with our creator. Adam walks with God in the cool of the evening through the garden. Enoch walks with God and is taken straight away to heaven. Jesus is walking and we are to walk him.
We have somehow boiled down the upward dimension of relationship to only talking and listening to God. If our relationship with another person, especially someone signification in our lives, were defined only by talking with hat person, it would be a rather limited relationship. Time together and companionship matter.
The same holds true in our upward relationship with God. It needs to be more than just prayer time. We really need ti live with him.
Jesus said he could do nothing by himself, only what he had seen the Father do (John 5:19).Jesus has observed the Father at work. How? By spending time with the father. We can’t see what another person is doing unless we are with that person. Jesus speaks in personal and intimate terms about his father, the two were on very close terms. Jesus walked with his father while here on earth. And now we have an invitation to walk with God the father and Jesus ourselves.
When people wanted to get somewhere in the ancient world, they walked. And walking with someone meant spending time together. If you were a disciple with Jesus in those days, you spent much of your time walking on the dusty road with Jesus, talking along the way. you might stop at an inn for lunch and eat with Jesus. You would have shopped in the market with Jesus. When it rained, you would have huddled under a shelter with Jesus. In other words, you would have lived every part of your life with Jesus.
